* Political… but tangentially gaming related

I promise that this blog won’t get political, but I have to share. Does anyone else think that whenever John McCain says “my friends” he’s being very Atlas/Fontaine like when he says “would you kindly”? Sorry if I’ve just spoiled BioShock for you, but if you haven’t gotten to the end by now, you deserve to be spoiled.
* Mega Man 9 Press Kit: Fan Service Done Right
Posted on October 5th, 2008 by Steve. Filed under Gaming News.
After reading the most recent blog post about the distribution of the Mega Man 9 press kits, I have to say that I’m very impressed by the method used by Capcom to reward their most loyal of fans.
Yes, I realize that you might be a loyal fan of Capcom/Mega Man, but never registered (I’m in the same boat). I ask you though, how else would they know? The company took an approach where their staff is able to go through data on their site to see who they feel is most deserving and are able to offer it to those individuals. That way the folks who end up with it have a high likelyhood of appreciating / treasuring the kit, rather than it going to someone running a bot on the site who immediately turns around and sells it on eBay.
With this approach and the recent announcement of Club Nintendo coming to the US, I hope that other companies stand up and take notice that through cool, potentially low-cost promotions, one can increase the loyalty of the fan base, collect valuable feedback, and (particularly in this case), get a ton of free PR.
Thanks, Capcom, for a great game and an awesome promo to go with it!
* Nintendo DSi announcement
Posted on October 2nd, 2008 by Steve. Filed under Gaming News.
Posting right after the news broke on the DSi specs, so just some quick first impressions:
- The camera isn’t anything new folks, remember the GameBoy camera? Too bad it doesn’t come with a tiny thermal printer. ;) Still very interested in what gameplay options open up… definitely excited about the possibility of an augmented reality game.
- No GBA slot, so does that mean no Guitar Hero?
- Sound editing features… moar lifestyle apps. Why hasn’t Rosetta Stone released DS software?
- DSWare was a logical next step, but given the amount of shovelware on the DS, I’m wondering what the quality will be like. Capcom: Mega Man 9 on DSWare NOW!
- Dual touch might fragment the market, no? Will games have ‘classic’ and ‘i’ modes?
- DS/Wii linking, how about Four Swords 2? (or would that be 6 swords?)
Looks like that’s about it for DSi news. One last comment… WiiWare DL to SD card, it’s about time!
